Located in South West England
John Hurd's Organic Watercress is proud to call South West England home. Nestled in the stunning countryside, our watercress farm benefits from the region's unique climate and filtered underground chalk aquifers. Our location in South West England not only provides the perfect conditions for growing watercress but also reflects our deep-rooted connection to the land and community. We have two farms both in the South West, our main site is in Wiltshire where we also package the Watercress ready to be sent to consumers and shops with another slightly smaller site exclusively for growing in Dorset.

About us

How we harvest

Machine harvesting watercress offers several advantages compared to hand harvesting. The process is more efficient and faster, allowing us to meet the growing demand for our organic watercress. Additionally, machine harvesting ensures a more consistent quality and quantity of the product. While hand harvesting has its charm and tradition but is extremely laborious and time consuming, we continued this practice until 2018 when we went to mechanized harvesting to embrace modern advances in food production. Machine harvesting reflects our commitment to innovation and sustainability in agriculture.

Exploring Watercress in Culinary Delights

Watercress is a versatile and nutrient-rich green that offers a wide range of possibilities when it comes to culinary creations. From vibrant salads to flavorful soups, watercress can be incorporated into various dishes to elevate both the taste and nutritional content.

1. Watercress Salad: One of the most popular ways to enjoy watercress is in a fresh salad. Its peppery flavor adds a delightful kick to a simple salad of mixed greens, or it can stand alone as the star ingredient when paired with complementary flavors like tomatoes, feta cheese, and balsamic vinaigrette.

2. Watercress Pesto: For a unique twist on the classic pesto sauce, substitute basil with watercress. Blend watercress with garlic, pine nuts, Parmesan cheese, and olive oil to create a vibrant and flavorful pesto that can be tossed with pasta or used as a spread on sandwiches.

3. Watercress Soup: Creamy watercress soup is a comforting and nutritious option, especially during colder months. Combine watercress with potatoes, onions, broth, and seasonings to create a velvety soup that is both satisfying and full of green goodness.

4. Watercress Smoothie: Add a handful of watercress to your favorite smoothie recipe for an extra boost of vitamins and minerals. Its slightly bitter taste pairs well with sweet fruits like berries, bananas, and mango, creating a refreshing and nutrient-dense beverage.

5. Watercress Sandwich: Upgrade your sandwich game by layering watercress on your favorite bread with avocado, cucumber, and smoked salmon. The peppery bite of watercress adds a delicious contrast to the creamy avocado and savory proteins.
